Assimilate

To assimilate is to fit in or get comfortable with your surroundings. It's when you get one culture and its way of living and you start to act think and ado the same way they do.
In the Raisin in the Sun the one who shows assimilation is the character Ruth because she always goes with the other characters actions or with what they even say.  In the play, assimilation is shown by Ruth by showing her weakness of herself and of other women in their similar situations. It just shows how easily women can give up all their opportunities and rights all up.
Everyone assimilates, and I see everyone doing it everyday. School is the home for people who assimilate. Majority of the time it is teenagers who do it, and sometimes adults. I too assimilate, as in growing up physically and mentally. Everyone has to look at these things in their own way in order to understand or meet new people in their lives.
In Eric Liu's view of assimilation is when he saying that he isn't Chinese from the core. He is saying he is an Asian American and has learned the customs and the way of living here in American. He accepts that he no longer has Chinese culture in him but that does still make him different, by saying Asian American. Eric Liu just finally grasped the American way of living.

Me? Or my family?

If I had to choose between the two, I would choose my family because I don't think I can go through a day knowing I chose myself over them. I would feel so self fish and then I would feel like I messed up and would have that on top of me like weights that I wouldn't go anywhere.

That's why I would choose my family over myself. But then I know my family would want me to choose myself. Just as them wanting to choose me is a good enough reason to choose them over myself. Plus family is family you never give up on them, they are the people who make you, you! They are the ones that always believe in you when you don't believe in yourself. So this is why I would be crazy not to pick my wonderful family over myself.

The American Dream

My perspective of the American Dream is everyone having a family, middle class not rich nor poor but everyone happy really doing the right things. As in all the kids doing their homework going to school not getting in trouble and the parents working not really fighting, and the moms making dinner for the whole family every night for the whole family. Kind of like a picture perfect family to me, with the whole white fence around their house.

Introduction

Well my name is Emily Amaya. I love to play sports! Any sports really, but my favorite ones are volleyball, gymnastics, and track. I try to stay on top of my grades, and I try to hangout with my friends as much as possible. Well, that's pretty much me! :)
